Abdominal pain question

Lindsay • 28 🌈🌈💖 due 10/31/21!

I found out on this last Monday (7/13) at my first ultrasound that there was only an empty gestational sac. My doctor did another ultrasound Friday because I started having some bleeding, but nothing significant yet. The sac was still empty, measuring 1.5cm (I should have been 10 weeks).

Pretty sure I’m currently miscarrying, due to bleeding and some intense abdominal pain. The abdominal pain feels like really intense gas pain, and is the worst when I feel like I need to have a bowel movement. It almost feels like rectal pain. It also strikes when I go to sit down or if I change my sitting/laying position too fast. Everything I’ve read says that it feels like extremely intense cramping or contractions (I’ve never given birth, as this was our first pregnancy). I can’t find anything online that isn’t referring to ectopic pregnancies. My doctor did a thorough ultrasound and did not find any abnormalities in my Fallopian tubes or ovaries, and the sac was definitely intrauterine.

Is this type of pain normal? I go back for a third scan on Monday, and had betas drawn yesterday. I’m planning to ask the doctor on Monday, but I was just wondering if anyone else had this kind of pain?

Update: Definitely thinking it was contractions. I think I just passed it, and the cramping and sharp pains have mostly stopped. On the plus side, I now know that I’ll 100% be wanting that epidural when we finally get our rainbow baby...! (Sorry, inappropriate humor is a coping mechanism)
