What a terrible day
*Warning this is long
Today I was supposed to have my 3 hour glucose test. Now to get this appointment scheduled was a nightmare. I couldn't actually speak with a person and had to schedule it online. I was supposed to have the test done by 28 weeks but today was the first appointment I could get at 29+2 and it was at 11:30 and I needed to fast. I get to the appointment and the lady working there says I can't do this test now don't you know we close at noon, you need to come back. I tell her I have been fasting for over 12 hours there is no way I am waiting. So she tells me that she has to call her supervisor. 15 minutes later she gives me the drink and then tells me she doesn't have a script. I told her the doctor sent it over two weeks ago and she said I don't have it so you need to call and have them fax it over. Well the office is closed for lunch. The lady says no problem I'm going to have you sit in your car while we are closed and then have you come back for your draw and you just have to get me the fax by 2 when we close. I said this is supposed to be a 3 hour test to which she says oh I can't do that we close at 2. I said I scheduled this appointment online two weeks ago and this was the earliest appointment you had. She said I don't care if you scheduled it a month ago I can't do the test. She then proceeded to tell me they haven't changed their website since covid hit. And I said well I need to have this done and I haven't eaten and I have an appointment. She looks at me and says I'm not going back and forth with you about this, so I stormed out.
Luckily my doctor's office is in the same building so I went down there crying asking to speak with someone. I told them what happened and they decided to check with the doctor on what to do. They asked if they drew a fasting blood and I said nope. They said okay well we will draw your blood at 1, 2 and 3 hours and then you'll fast overnight again and come back for a fasting draw first thing in the morning. When I go in for my second draw, I had the head nurse and she said she talked with the lab lady and she was rude to her as well. She told me she was going to be speaking with their rep to file a complaint because I never should have been scheduled so late in the day for a glucose test let alone be treated the way I was. I asked her if the 1 hour test had the same drink as the 3 hour and she said no but the lab assured her I had the correct drink. I told her I wasn't so sure about that. The nurse said she was going to check with the doctor to make sure it didn't matter.
I go back in for the last draw and I noticed I had a voicemail from the doctor asking me to call back. When the nurse came out she looked defeated. She said I'm really sorry but since we don't know you had the right drink you will have to do it over. She told me she would be calling and she would schedule the test herself at a different lab.
By the time I got home, I had a voicemail from the nurse. She said she spoke with their rep at length and he would be contacting 3 different people in charge of the area to make sure something is done about what happened because it never should have happened. The rep or the area manager should be reaching out personally to schedule my new appointment. I'm not holding my breath.
It was just a long day of 17 hours with no food and lots of tears. I'm done. I can't wait for my almost 3 year old to go to bed.
