Can you get epi before pitocin?

After reading all the horror stories about pitocin I was wondering if you can get an epidural before pitocin. Has anyone done this? How did labor go?

Picotin is used to get labor going, epidural is given later, when labor is already going.

Every dr is different but when it comes to induction none of our doctors do that. This is a question for your doctor

I needed pitocin because I had meconium in my fluid after my water broke. I was begging for the epidural and they told me it was too soon as it slows down labor a bit and if I got the epidural too soon I'd risk a c-section. Aside from a circumstance like that I think you are able to get it if you want. It's worth asking about and seeing what they say

My doctor gave me an epidural before starting my labor. It went like this:
1. Got epidural
2. Doc broke my water (was only 2cm dilated)
3. Got oxytocin to start contractions
4. Waited *pain free* from approx. 1 pm to 7pm. That’s when I started to feel some painful contractions. It didn’t hurt enough for tears until I was fully dilated and starting to push. I only pushed for 10 min and she was out! 
It was a great birth experience and I hope yours will be as well! 
(I’m in Canada and was 41 weeks if that makes any difference)

Yes. My son was sunny side up which caused my water to break while I had Cervidil inserted, before Pitocin. After that the contractions got super painful and I requested the epidural. I never ended up getting Pitocin because labor progressed on its own, but at the time they gave me the epidural they were still going ahead with the induction as planned.

Pitocin is just painful but I did without an epidural for hours until we maxed out. I have ZERO pain tolerance. It wasn’t too too bad so don’t be afraid of it

You can, but the dr has to special order it. With my first induction, I had a crappy nurse who refused and also refused to call my dr and ask. Then my epidural order was delayed and it was really awful.  When I was pregnant with my 2nd birth and my dr started talking induction again, I told him what happened and he was not happy. He said he absolutely would have approved it and seemed annoyed that the nurse didn't ask on my behalf when I wanted it.  Next induction he ordered it before the pitocin. So my advice is to talk to your dr before your induction, if it's scheduled.

When I went in to delivery my last daughter two years ago I got the epidural 30 mins after being admitted. Then after an hour they put me on pitocin and I started to feel contractions 2hrs later and they let me press the button for my epidural and then it was time to push.
My labor was 4hrs and 8mins
