Yeast infection

I went to the doctors yesterday because I’ve been having symptoms of a yeast infection. Soreness, thick white discharge, and itching. I’ve had previous yeast infections and it feels just like one. Well they swabbed me and it didn’t come back that I had a yeast infection. I have no clue what else it could be because my boyfriend and I have been checked. So I asked if they would do an STD panel. Has this ever happened to you? And what did it end up being or was it actually a yeast infection and you were misdiagnosed. That’s my fear is that I’m misdiagnosed. It also doesn’t make sense because my doctor said it’s not a yeast infection that it’s irritation but I can take medicine for having a yeast infection...this doesn’t seem right:(
