When should I have my first ultrasound?

I messaged my doctor about my fears because I had a missed miscarriage last year and she gave me the option of having my first ultrasound next week during my 6th week instead of waiting for my 8th week. Last year my baby stopped growing at 5wks 3 days. Should I do the early ultrasound or wait until 8 weeks?

I’d wait till 8 weeks. I’ve also had a missed miscarriage and it was awful. But the chances of miscarriage go down each week you progress. It is also hard to see anything on a 6 week ultrasound.

For me, an ultrasound that early would cause me even more anxiety because there’s probably nothing to see yet. I’d wait till 8 weeks

I had my first ultrasound at 6+3 due to some spotting and slow rising hcg. They were able to see the sac and fetal pole on a transvaginal ultrasound. If they try to use an abdominal one, it will probably not be able to pick it up. If you go early, just keep in mind that even with the trans one, it may still be to early to see anything, and it won’t necessarily mean there’s a problem. It could end up just causing you more unnecessary worry, and you’ll have to come back at 7-8 weeks anyway.

Wait. Early ultrasounds make you anxious, because there is not much to see anyway, and even if miscarrying, mostly there is nothing they or you can do to keep it happening.
