Bleeding at 4 months?

I had a C-section on March 27th. I’m exclusively breast feeding and haven’t had my period yet... I don’t think. It’s usually bright red first few days then starts to taper lasting almost a week. A few days ago I started bleeding. It wasn’t bright red but maroonish and continued getting darker over the days. Anyone else experience bleeding at four months like this. Could it be a period? With my other two I didn’t get it till well after 6 months and I can’t remember if it started the way this bleeding happening right now.
