TMI question about sex while spotting

I am struggling with a medical condition that has increased my cycle lengths. I am currently on day 60. Despite no period coming I am spotting. The spotting consists of thick, stringy, dark brown blood. When my husband and I have sex he'll start to complain about a burning sensation at the tip of his penis and we have to stop. One time he had some of the stringy-ness around/kinda in the tip of his penis. Can this be causing the burning sensation?
