Why bipoc not poc?

Why do black and indigenous have their own letter but then Asian’s/ Latino’s/ Indians/ people from the Middle East etc all get grouped as “people of colour”? Having a letter for everyone would be too long 😅 I’m just confused why suddenly we’ve added the BI

it's recognition that not all poc face the same levels of systemic racism. bipoc is meant to unite two poc groups who face some of the worst institutional racism. that's not to say other poc don't face racism though.

From the learning I’ve done around First Nations, Métis and Inuit people and the 2slgbtq+ groups, I think acronyms can often cause challenges. It also erases the name of the group you might be talking about and people use it as a blanket term so they never have to learn about the individuals and individual concerns of each represented letter. My rule, be a specific as possible when speaking about a group, ie trans over lgbt, Chinese over Asian, cree over indigenous, and say the full words when you speak about the acronyms.

At this point, there are so many acronyms for minorities, it’s getting ridiculous. POC, BIPOC, BAME, BME, etc. I don’t understand the need for many acronyms.

I don’t know what BIPOC is but I’ve long hated the term POC. Seems like such a play on words from the time when anyone not white was called “Colored”. I just prefer describing race as it is. Black isn’t a bad word, and being afraid or nervous to say it, means you must thing it IS a bad word. 🥴

I’ve never heard BIPOC. I’ve seen POC on here, but never heard it in every day life. I just say black. Or middle eastern, or Asian, or Hispanic, or white, or Native American. Sort of all over the place, but that’s just what comes to mind.

I’ve never heard of any of those except for POC, and I don’t refer to anyone as that. I call you what you are. Not “minority” or “POC”. I think it’s dumb and I’d be a little annoyed if someone called me a minority or a POC. I’m black. Call me black.

I’m confused. I’ve never seen bipoc? I’ve always just seen/heart POC. I’ve also never heard of Indians, Asians, etc. be referred to as POC, at least not where I’m from.
As derogatory as it is, the phrase POC usually refers to black people because a long time ago, they were referred to as “coloreds”. But I’ve never seen the term bipoc before.

Why are people claming up all those ethnicities together under the term POC though? I feel that sometimes the concept of race vs ethnicity get lost. People can be latinos (or other ethnicities) and not be a POC, so it doesnt make sense to include everyone under that term.
