Evacuating?

Question

Any other August mommy’s getting ready to evacuate from Marco/Laura? Any tips for a long trip with a 3 week old?
After Harvey, we aren’t taking any chances. My SO has to stay since he’s a cop so I’m headed to my hometown (30 mins away) and leaving with my fam later today or tomorrow. My 3 weeks postpartum appointment was supposed to be tomorrow but I doubt I’ll make it. Blaaaah.

We had to evacuate for Florence when my son was two months old. It hit us dead on, as a cat1, and destroyed our apartment . We were displaced till mid December. We went north 200+ miles into a different state and were there for 3 weeks because the flooding was so bad we couldn’t even get back into the state we lived in, let alone 3/4 of the way down the coast line. I would be going further than 30 minutes away if I were you. The category of a storm isn’t what necessarily matters, it’s the size and the impact. Katrina hit as a cat 3, which isn’t a severe/major hurricane. But it’s the most known hurricane due to its impact, damage, death toll, etc. 
I would prep your home, pull everything towards the center of the rooms/interior of the house. Unplug all electronics, salvage what perishables you can. Pack with the intent to stay 2 weeks wherever you go. Take PHOTOS of everything you own, serial numbers, interior and exterior of every part of your home for insurance purposes. Take photos of your landscaping/property also. What I learned with insurance is they don’t wanna pay and try to say your lying about a hurricane destroying your home. Had my insurance person say “there wasn’t even a hurricane”, when there was in fact a hurricane that destroyed EVERYTHING where I lived.

I’m not evacuating. But I hope you and your family stay safe! 
I did move with my first son when he was 3 weeks. It was about a 11 hour drive. It sucked but he slept most of the way. Just had to keep stopping to feed him. It was doable

There is a limit about how long it's safe for a newborn to be in its car seat. I would research that and plan to make lots of pit stops.
