Are extreme opposing political views a reason to get divorced?

I have always been a right leaning moderate and my husband a left leaning moderate, however, with all that’s going on with the Covid-19 crisis, our political views have become so polar opposite. Our contrasting beliefs are starting to get in the way of how we live life, our world view, how we value our rights, etc. Especially because we have children, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see eye to eye. I love him so much, but this has been a difficult aspect of our marriage. Is anybody experiencing something similar?

Maybe take a season to talk about the things you DO agree upon. If you only talk about things you don’t agree with, then eventually you’ll start to wonder why you are with that person. But you obviously fell in love enough to get married and have kids, so you do have some common ground. Focus on that for a while. Political climates will change. Having a family together won’t. And I think that’s worth fighting for.

It is if one is racist, a bigot, homophobe, fascist, or sexist, or supports a candidate or politician, or reality tv star turned politician who is any or all of those things.

Religion, morals, and politics are always something I made sure to know before considering even dating a guy. Since they do play large roles in how you view the world and behave and raise your kids.
But since you’re already married, I would try to do my best to make it work.

There are a few moral political issues which I feel could end a relationship for me. I’m pro-choice, I think every woman has a right to choose. Especially some of the extreme abortion laws that were going around last year, and some of the laws in a few states making rape victims have to coparent, even miscarriages potentially legally punishable, those are extremely backwards and sexist laws not to mention plain disgusting. So if my partner supported those I would have a very hard time seeing them the same way. 
Others would be if they were racist or homophobic, just let people be who they are. Also if they were supportive of defunding the police, that’s another political view I couldn’t agree with or respect from my partner. I’m becoming a police officer so I feel like it wouldn’t be a surprise that I wouldn’t appreciate that view from a partner. 
So yeah, depending on the issue I could understand it ending a relationship, you have to be the one to decide if you can both agree to live with your differences and probably best avoid them in conversation, or if it’s a deal breaker for you. On issues I don’t agree with but would be fine just not speaking about, I think I would have a hard time if my partner started talking about it all the time or wouldn’t drop it/avoid the topic around me bc that’s simply disrespectful at that point.

My partner and I have different political views but our CORE and family values are the same and I think that’s what is most important in my opinion. But if yours are not, then i would leave. It will never work.

Don't discuss the negatives.. just come to some sort of agreement.. the best advice I can give about ur children is.. just let them lead their own way.. everyone is different.. u married him for a reason so think to that.

My husband and I hold opposing views In politics...he used to not be so polar opposite, but the last few years have definitely had an impact. It is hard sometimes for us as well, I’m just hoping that it’s just this political season, once things aren’t so divisive, we won’t be either!

Would have been a deal breaker for me from the get go. Things are inevitably going to happen that are going to cause intense disagreements if either one of you is passionate about their political views.

My SO and I have very different political views and get into heated debates. What we have figured works before for us, is to do our own research (yes we research what we see on the news) and never just take something as a fact because we seen a clip or post about it. I get pissed when he says “oh you’re starting to like my party” umm no it was just a good point being made.
