Pregnant? Panic Attack?

Alana • Las Vegan, early-thirties mama of 2 boys

I need to tell someone but I’m not ready to share with friends or family just yet. My period was due today. I’m normally on time or even a little early. My husband and I were trying but we have recently been displaced due to SHEER CHAOS at our house.

Here’s a quick run down of what our quarantine has looked like:

* broken bed

* bed bugs

* rear view mirror fell off ripping out a piece of glass

* new windshield

* broken microwave

* broken washing machine

* misdiagnosed machine for a month

* turns out 2yo put it in demo mode by pressing buttons

* washing machine repaired after two incorrect parts were ordered and three appliance guy visits

* appliance guy forgets to reconnect the waste water hose

* wall is flooded

* floor is buckled from water damage

* flood repair guy forgets to connect hose to dehumidifier

* second minor flood

* air conditioner leaks, flooding bathroom

* bathroom cabinets and moldings are soaked

* ac is likely busted

* Broken nightlight (lol)

* asbestos

* Ceiling leak/collapse from leaky faucet in unit upstairs while asbestos team is removing asbestos (flood 4 if you’re counting)

* Mold in ceiling

We’re staying at my in-laws’ with my 4- and 2- year old. We came over the night the AC died (it’s 110 degrees at night where I live). One night when we were still at home, I was feeling particularly fertile. (We were waiting on the asbestos test to demo the wet walls behind the washing machine at the time so things were still moderately manageable.) Guys, I’m freaking out. Now, we’re going to be here for at least another month. My in-laws are wonderful but there’s still an element of tension and stress not being in your own home. I’m afraid to even take a pregnancy test in case someone sees it. I also don’t want them thinking I “did it” in their guest room. I mean, it’s still VERY possible I’ll get my period soon and stress is affecting my cycle. I would be so happy to be pregnant and grateful to have family around. It’s just a lot going on. My husband also got a new job in another state and my mother in law still denies we’re going to move. Every time the subject comes up, she says, “but you might not even move anyway.”

Another favorite: “At least you have family around when you need us and you guys don’t have to stay in a hotel.”
