Is QAnon Today's War of the Worlds?

In the 1938 Orson Welles produced a radio adaptation of a the Novel "The War of the Worlds". It was famous because it caused real panic, people though the earth was being invaded by aliens. 
Today there is QAnon, leaving "bread crumbs" for followers of the group. The bread crumbs are up for interpretation almost like horoscope, if you are looking for signs you will find them. There have been a few instances of people acting on their interpretations in the real world, not just discussing online. 
I think it isn't real but is a serious problem even if it started as a hoax.

I know people who believe all of this stuff and while I believe it is a hoax of enormous proportions, being so ridiculously beyond far-fetched that it is impossible to even quantify, the hysteria it engenders is very real, not to mention dangerous.

It's a huge problem. They take the very real problem of human trafficking, and child sexual abuse and make outrageous claims. They have taken over the savethechildren hashtag and the saveourchildren hashtag. 
QAnon has really hurt organizations that have been working against human trafficking for years. All to make people believe that Trump is some kind of hero.

Belief in Q truly makes me concerned for the mental health or lack thereof in our country. These people seem desperate to be angry and to have a place to take out that anger. I’m truly taken aback by people electing officials who believe in Q! Q might just be a bot, after all. 
It’s as bad as flat earthers, but MUCH more dangerous.

I voted not real but a serious problem.  The group preys on people who want to help particularly people who want to help children. With the isolation of quarantine and the general feeling of uncertainty a lot more people started believing it.

It's not real, but if it was intended as a hoax or prank it's gone too far. Now it's spreading false information about child predators when everyone could be focusing on stopping real pedifiles.

Over the weekend I have been reading up on Qanon and there are several similarities between Q theories and something from the early 190s called "the Protocol of the Order of Zion". A lot of the anti semitic Nazi propaganda was based on the Protocol of the Order of Zion.
