How do you contain your period?

I use tampons but I'm interested in the cup but super anxious about how to deal with it if I'm in public and need to refresh myself. Tips would be great. Drop brand and whatever you think is useful.

For other answers feel free to weigh in tips and thoughts :)

Thanks!

I use a diva cup. It's super easy to deal with in public. Either pick a single stall bathroom so you can rinse your cup, just wipe it out with toilet paper or plan ahead so you don't need to change it. Most days I can get 4-8 hrs out of a change so I can just plan around it. I have a heavy flow so if you are lighter you may get 8-12 hrs each change.

I use the SAALT cup and I like it. I would only change it in public if I was in a single stall where I could clean the cup and my hands throughly. Generally, pads are more sanitary. If i don’t use my cup, I use old school maxi pads— not the new ultra thin ones that make your blood coagulate in the pad. Apparently the chemicals that make that happen are bad for you.

I use the nixit. I just take it out, rinse it, and put it back. If you’re in a multi stall bathroom you can just wipe it out with toilet paper or nixit makes wipes you can use. It’s so much easier than tampons or lads.

I used soft cups forever until I found nixit now that’s what I use

That’s exactly why I bought it! It took me about two cycles before I felt really comfortable. And the first time I inserted it I needed to take it out and rearrange it a few times but now I can do it in my sleep. They have great videos and stuff that explain how to insert it.

Awesome! Are they pretty easy to use and get use to? I'm just trying to do my body good and use less waste :)

Buy 2 different brands as you'll end up liking one more than the other. I use one and carry the other in my purse so when I empty a cup, I put a clean one in and then wash the other in the sink. (In 5 years ive only been caught once and it was a 7 year old so she asked about it but it didn't bother her). They come in a little bag so they will stay clean while in your purse and I carry a small bottle of cleanser too. I recommend wearing a pair of thinx (best period panties ever) or a pad for the first few periods using the cups because their is a learning curve. You have to get used to testing to make sure the cup is fully open and suctioned. Once you get the hang of it, its golden!!! Took me 3 periods to get it down pat. I perosnally have a Lunette and Saalt brands but their are a lot more on the market than their were when I bought mine years ago.

Free bleed I guess, out of the pill options. But period panties in actuality ✌🏻

They're pretty great. I've bleed through a couple of times, but that's on me underestimating my flow, not the panties 😅 I don't even notice that I'm wearing them half the time. It is a nuisance to have to wash them by hand, but that can be easily resolved with a washer (no fabric softener, no dryer!), I just don't have one in my apartment 😅

I use the Dutchess cup and absolutely love it. Will never go back to tampons or pads. I keep a extra cup when I am out to change if I need to. I have a collapsible silicone cleaning cup to put the used one in and wash at home. Normally just a few hours later after removing it. But honestly the cup holds so much and I can wear it about 6 to 8 hours. Have yet to need to change it while I’m out. I’m a stay at home mama, I tend to just plan on being home the first day of my cycle when I need to change after 5 hours or plan my times out of the house around my times changing my cup. Empty right before leaving the house and then I’m good to go.

I just use tp to wipe it clean and then pop it in the cup to clean and sterilize at home.

Good to know! I'm hardly out and about unless I'm on travel or visiting family. Just really didn't wanna deal with that one person in the bathroom lecturing me on my body lol we all know the type. But I can probably get like baby wipes even 😁
