IUD worries

Im worrying myself. I’m due to have a copper iud fitted later today and I’m scared. I have heard horror stories about it and it’s making me really nervous and scared. I know more people have it (my mom, sister and a friend have had it) and have no problems rather than have any problems (2 friends have tried and not kept it in) but I’m still scared as I don’t have high pain threshold and just finished a really painful period. I’m trying this after being on pill for 9 years and I’m trying this to stop my horrid mood swings, so trying hormone free iud. My bf is supportive but I’m still scared. Is it really bad during and after fitting? Please I’m panicking so much.

I have mirena so it’s not copper but I know what it’s like more or less. It hurt me a lot during and after, but the pain only lasted about a day or so. You can take some ibuprofen before the procedure to reduce the pain. Again, this is just me! I think it hurt me a lot because I don’t really get bad cramps so the pain was a bit unusual, but it pretty much only felt like bad cramps. Keep a hot water bottle nearby and just rest after :) good luck, you’ll be fine!

It hurt for a day and I forgot about the pain within a week. I have had my IUD for a year now and love it so much.
