Methadone and pregnancy?

Has anyone had a pregnancy while on methadone? If so what was ur dosage, and experience after having baby? Or did the worst happen n experience mc?

Hello! I'm on Methadone too. I have been for 6 years now and we've been TTC for 3 years.  I'm at a stable dose, 215mg, it's a pretty high dose but it's where I've been most comfortable at.  I talked with a lot of doctors before starting my TTC process and was told it would be better for me to stay on methadone if I became pregnant.  I had my daughter 7 years ago on suboxone and she did experience some withdrawal which they medicate with small doses of morphine. She was in the hospital about 6 days then sent home!  Most babies do experience some withdrawal it just varies on how long it will last. Feel free to add me any ladies on Methadone that are TTC!

I was on methadone while pregnant with my son who is now 2. No withdrawls at all. I'm now on

I work with women who are on methadone in pregnancy.  It is actually safer for the baby for you to be on methadone instead of going through withdrawal as withdrawal can actually cause pregnancy loss because it is too hard on the baby. Focus on staying healthy and focusing on your recovery so that methadone is the only thing you are putting in your system. Most of the babies I see born have only very mild withdrawal symptoms and don't even need to spend time in the NICU.  Here's to a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby!

I have seen methadone babies...can u ween off. If u are on methadone sometimes the baby may need it too at first. Poor baby. Anyway to ween off?

I'm currently 21 weeks and my doctor said the same thing. Dosage is 100 mg. I'm doing good not to up my dose. Many women I've spoke with that go to the clinic also say that they had to go up during pregnancy. I got pregnant two years ago and was on methadone. I decided to quit taking it due to the pregnancy and my doctors backed me. Resulted in miscarriage.

I'm not sure of dosage or anything like that.. But one of my friends was on methadone for her pregnancy (she's been on it for years) and her son had to stay in the hospital for 2 months. The baby suffers from withdrawal.

That's the one to replace street drugs correct? Sorry I'm just not sure. If so, my cousin was on it her entire pregnancy and still is. Her little boy is now 4 and fine but it's really up to your doctor to weigh the pros and cons.
