Why quotation marks?

My mil sent hubs and I a nice happy anniversary text this morning. But she put: you're great "parents" with parents in quotations. And we can't figure out why lol we are parents and have 2 kiddos.  So looking for theories because we're confused lol  🤪

I've seen plenty of older people use quotations when they mean to underline or emphasize.  Unless you have a reason to think she's being passive aggressive about your parenting, I'd probably just chalk it up to misuse.

She thinks something about the way you parent your kids. I hate ppl like that... She is being a asshole instead of just saying what she feels. It's no manual to being a parent.

A lot of older people misuse quotation marks (and other things) for some reason. My grandma always says “happy” birthday in cards lol
