Which layover would you pick? See description below

Question

Traveling with three year old. One seems too short and the other too long. It’s a very end of day flight, so if the first flight gets delayed and I miss the connection, I’d probably be stuck overnight with my kid. 
But on the other hand - keeping my kid entertained for both flights AND a two and a half hour layover might be hard. Although she might sleep because it’ll be late. Either that or she’ll be an overtired hellion. Lol

Longer layout gives you time to find a restaurant and sit and eat with her that’s what I always do, a full 3 course kids meal always amuses mine for at least an hour and the other time we spend looking around at everything and moving his little legs before he gets stuck in a plane again

I travel with my 2 year old often and I find that the longer layovers are better. It gives you time to head to the restroom, change him/her if still diapers! Grab some food or snacks. All with in enough time to get to your gate without stress or rushing!

It depends how much you carry on and how big your terminal is. I check everything and just bring a bag with kid stuff and my wallet and phone. It’s easier to have shorter layover if you don’t have to lug a bunch of crap around. I would especially choose short now since none of my frequent airports have any decent food options open to kill time. Its all news stands and coffee spots with bad sandwiches.

If the first flight is delayed at all. Or something happens that delays take off or letting passages depart then the shorter one could be a problem. Even more of a problem if the connecting flight is on the other side of the airport. I have sprinted across an airport too many times trying to make my connection flight. And that was just me and my husband. With my toddler thats impossible. You have to remember, it won’t be 45 min from the time you walk off the plane till the time the other plane boards. It will be 45 min from the time one lands and the other takes off. Ideally. So the longer time will give you a second to breathe and you won’t be entertaining a child in the terminal the entire time.  And honestly, That’s not worst case. It would be worse to miss the shorter time all together and be stuck there.
