Abruptly stopping progesterone?

At my last visit my OB told me to continue the progesterone suppositories until my next visit when we would discuss progesterone injections like I’ve needed in previous pregnancies. I sent a message in to ask if there’s anything I can do for vaginal itching and irritation from the suppositories and the medical assistant wrote back saying to just discontinue the suppositories as of immediately because they aren’t effective after 12 weeks. She went on to say that progesterone injections are no longer recommended for preterm labor. 
I’m so confused.
Why wouldn’t my dr discuss this with me? 
How is it okay to just cold turkey stop progesterone in a pregnancy where mom has a major history of preterm labor?! 
Has anyone else done this and had good results? 
I’m so worried that I’m going to start contracting after a few days of being off of it...

If progesterone suppositories aren’t effective after 12 weeks then why did my high risk doctor prescribe them to be at 20 weeks 🤔 and now I am 32 weeks and yes they can be highly effective. I mean, my cervix is short and the progesterone pills have helped it grow so how exactly is that not being effective? Vaginal irritation is common while on progesterone suppositories and I had absolutely no problem just calling my doctor and letting them know it felt like I had a yeast infection and they called medication in for me. I had a little bit of the clumpy discharge too, as you have to insert these pills vaginally. Even if they hadn’t called in a prescription the nurse told me I could also take Monistat 3 or 7.

It’s not exactly the same situation but I stopped progesterone injections at 10 weeks cold turkey and all was well. I was on them as part of my IVF protocol and have no history of preterm labor. Does your practice have another OB you could maybe get a second opinion from? Or maybe someone can take the time to sit down and listen to your concerns? I’m sorry you’re feeling so stressed and not getting good support from your doctor!

I took vaginal progesterone suppositories from 22 weeks until 36 weeks. So I’m not sure how they’re not effective? My cervix was short and the progesterone kept it from shortening any further. If I didn’t take them nightly, I might have had my son far too early and he could’ve not survived!! They had me stop at 36 weeks because they knew he would have been okay after that point. I ended up induced at 37 weeks of course for a whole different reason 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

I would get a second opinion because that doesn't sound right. I've never been in that position so I'm sorry that I'm not much help
