What's your experience like with a Doula?

I'm plan to have a hospital birth with my ob but I want to hire a doula. They are pricey but I wanted to read your ladies experiences with them. Did it help.

AMAZING. We used our doula for both births. She was so helpful and did two prenatal and two postnatal visits. Highly recommend. She was very helpful for my husband too. While I was in labor she was able to give him jobs to do to make him feel helpful— go get me ice water, go ask the nurse for nausea meds, go get a birthing ball, etc,

I didn't have one for my first and had one for my second. She for sure helped!
Pre-birth, she gave us information that I didn't even know I didn't know, even though it wasn't my first.  She kept me mentally in check, helped my bf know where to press depending on what was happening, went over other positions that were never taught, her voice got me through contractions. 
She was my biggest advocate when my bf and I were too in the moment and stopped the nurses from doing something I didn't want done, and called out the Dr on-call for being a total bitch because I wasn't her regular patient and that what I wanted was allowed by the hospital.

I haven’t given birth yet, but so far we love ours! With COVID, she won’t be able to come to the hospital, but she’s been a great resource for questions and tips. She actually came over yesterday and shower my husband a lot of her techniques to use during labor. She’ll come over when I’m in labor, but won’t be allowed at the hospital. So her and my husband went over different techniques and pain relief methods that may help (hip squeezes, stretches, massages, etc). Whenever we go to the hospital, she’ll switch to FaceTime, calls, and texts until baby’s born! She’s very calming and has been very reassuring that I can do a med-free birth! I’m going into my last few weeks of pregnancy feeling very confident in my ability to go completely natural, and it’s all because of her!

Having a doula at my last birth was amazing!!!! The support was unreal and I felt like a complete and total rockstar. I did have a home birth but I actually had 2 doulas and I would never birth another without one!

Due to Covid, they aren’t allowed in the room right now.   Unless you choose to have them instead of your partner 🤷🏽‍♀️
