Would you inform your friend they fell for a pyramid/MLM scheme?
A girl i went to high school with recently reached out to me stating she “needed” to tell me about “an amazing new opportunity”. She ends up calling me and i let her do her spiel. After a quick “thanks but no thank & best of luck!”, we wrapped up the conversation.
Anyway, a few days have gone by, and she has been posting a lot about how well she is doing in this “new industry” and how she is learning all of these “entrepreneurial skills” from her “mentor” (she PAYS like $250 a month for unlimited access which is just a video package and a live group text). At this point, i dont care. She is an adult, and it’s none of my business.
Yesterday, however, she messages me again and let’s me know she is upping her subscription so she can become a “mentor”. Her mentor has been giving her a lot of praise for her “millionaire potential”. Then she tells me she is quitting her job to pursue this full time. She thinks once she commits, she will start making money. We also have a job shortage in my area right now and if she quits, she can’t get unemployment. I mention she must be really confident because we are in a pandemic, but she seems..excited. I feel bad because she is a struggling single mom (she had her baby at 18 and is really open about her struggle).
**I chose not to say anything, but i still feel worried for her.
