Did you get blood type testing from a provider when you confirmed your pregnancy ?
I found out that I was pregnant with my first baby on August 25th, I saw a very highly recommended ob around September 8th. No blood work was done and nothing about rh incompatibility was mentioned. When leaving the office I scheduled my first ultrasound due to COVID was booked out until October 5th. Started out the morning with some fairly strong cramps and bleeding. Went into the appointment to have the us tech say that there is no heartbeat and the fetus is measuring a week behind.(I should have been 9+4) there definitely should have been a detectable heartbeat. My fiancé was with me and our hearts sank. Going back out into the waiting room to wait for the actual doctor was awful. I had already started to naturally pass the fetus and tissue while in the hospital which was so painful in addition to the horrible news. They drew blood and said they would call me the following day when the blood type results came back ...
Today I found out I am RH-, which if checked at my initial appointment they could have given me a simple shot of rogham to totally avoid the miscarriage that I am going through. And I would still be 10 weeks pregnant instead of missing work while painfully passing pieces of my failed uterus contents alone at home 😭. I went back into the same office today to receive the shot to verify that my next pregnancy will not be lost due to a preventable variable.
WHY IS CHECKING BLOOD TYPE NOT STANDARD PROCEDURE?
