Do you tip a photographer?

Hey y’all! My fiance and I are getting professional photos done up at my cabin this weekend and it’s really our first time in our adult lives having photos taken so we aren’t quite sure about etiquette. Since photography is a service, should we be tipping? If so, how much? Standard 20%? Please only answer if you reside in the US and understand the tipping etiquette in this sector🙂Tia!

Yes. I am a photographer and we work so hard to make sure you get the very best! Most people don't realize that our prices include the drive, paying off our equipment (usually a pro rig can range from 1k to 6k with lenses included) editing software, and also we spend a good 10 to 20 minutes editing per photo so include that to the shoot time and it's alot more work than people realize! Tips are SO APPRECIATED 20% is perfect.

I'm a photographer as well. While they're appreciated, I've never personally been tipped and I would never expect it. I set my prices to cover what I need :)

It is up to you guys, I wouldn’t and never tipped a photographer, they already have their price set for their time and work.

I’ve tipped for photographers who are part of a larger business, but not ones who work for themselves. IMO if you’re the one who sets the prices you’re hopefully making them fair/worth it to you.
