Has anyone learned a language with their baby as they grew up? Or had their child learn a language they didn’t speak?
I’m due in March, and am from the US. I lived in France for a while - I studied the language for 5 years and spoke it decently after being immersed, but I’ve been back in the US for years now and so I wouldn’t really even say that I can speak it now. If I were immersed again I would pick it up in a short time I think, but it’s much easier to read/write. However, I’ve always thought languages are important, and want my children to speak at least one other language.
My fiancé also only speaks English. We’d always talked about studying and learning Spanish together, but it never happened. Now that we’re having a baby, I was thinking that maybe we could all learn it together as a family. Kids pick up language skills so quickly between 0-3 so we really want to start young. I know that we probably would never get to the level that our child would able to get to, but has anyone tried this before? I
