Does anyone work in behavioral health?
So I’ve been working at a behavioral school for almost 3 months, and I’m already ready to quit. I am currently studying psychology in hopes of becoming a clinical psychologist in the future, but I did not anticipate that working in this field would be so intense.
I went in thinking that there is going to be certain behaviors and aggressions, but not to this extent (hair pulling, punching, slapping, grabbing, scratching, spitting, digging in genital area, property destruction, etc). It is to the point where I dread coming to work and feel extremely anxious the entire time I’m there. I feel like my fight or flight mode is activated for my entire shift and I’ve done everything I can to shake the feeling, but I can’t help but have my guard up all the time.
I’ve already had two interviews last week and am just waiting to hear back now. How do you cope with working in an intense environment? It’s so crazy because I appear to be level-headed and very confident during my shifts, but am literally dying from panic on the inside.
