How do people from other countries feel about our girl's name?

Question

We live in the Netherlands and have decided on our girl's name months ago. Her name will be Vlinder, which is the Dutch word for butterfly.  We love the name and feel completely comfortable with it. But opinions in our country are divided, haha.  Some people don't like names that are also words and some people say: but it's an insect! 
 Not that we will change the name or anything, but I was wondering how people from a different country feel about it. Is it pronounceable? Do you like the sound of it? The meaning? Just curious. 😊

I definitely wouldn't call my daughter Buttefly in English, so I can understand the reservations in your country. I can pronounce it but it doesn't sound particularly pretty.

I think these types of names are very culture - specific. In my husband's country of origin, nature names are quite common. His name translates to pine tree. Other common ones translate to almond, bird, wave, etc. But the translation for butterfly would be considered odd there. For Americans, the name butterfly would be considered silly, yet we have names like Rose, Lilly, Iris, Fox, Wolf, River, Brooke etc and we don't think twice about it because we're just used to it. I think the bottom line is that you don't want your child's name to be a hindrance. Your name may very well be more accepted in a foreign country than yours.  But if in your country, people are going to make fun of her name and possibly not take her seriously, that is a little unfair to her and may be a problem for her as an adult professional.

Not my cup of tea, but it’s not my child.  Just like I’m ready for backlash for the girl name I have picked out if we’re having a girl.  I know my MIL will 100000% voice her stupid opinion

It's not pleasing to the ear but I don't speak the language and I'm sure there are plenty of things we name babies you might not like the sound or flow of.

But this isn't my cup of tea, nor my kid so your opinion matters most, haters will hate on literally every name so if you love it, go for it!🥰💗

I'm from Europe, too and I wouldn't name my child any animal name. I don't want my child to be ridiculed or bullied by other kids because of the name I choose, which I feel has very good potential to happen with a name like this. I'm sorry, but this is my honest opinion.
