Is it tacky to host your own baby shower?

My baby shower is one of the many things I’ve been thinking about a lot since I found out I was pregnant. While it is going to be a while before I have it (I’m not due till around may 16th) I was wondering if hosting your own baby shower was something that is acceptable to do? I know traditionally someone you love hosts it for you but I’m totally ok with not being totally traditional. This being my first baby shower I’m just excited to plan it :) I have been told by a few loved ones that the expecting mother isn’t supposed to plan or host it. I know my best friend planned her first baby shower. I feel like the mother should at least decide the theme, time and place. What do you think?
