Is 6 years old (first grade) too young for a TV in their room?

We aren’t huge on screen time, but my son is allowed to watch an hour or so a day on the weekend and maybe one show before bed on weeknights. ￼All he talks about is having his own tv in his room and I would love to surprise him on Xmas morning. My family seems to think he’s too young. ￼￼ we would definitely set rules.￼

Ultimately it is up to you but personally no I would not put a tv in my child's room. We don't have tvs in any room but the living room..not out bedroom and never our kids. That is us though. Same as I wouldn't get my 6 yr old a video game system. Every family is different and you just have to do what works for your family. If you and the dad are ok with it and want to do it, then do it and ignore your families opinions

I don't think TVs in bedrooms are a good thing at all, no matter how old you are. But it's ultimately up to you, I would make sure that screen time is limited and there are parental controls on the TV, as well as anything else you can do to help reduce anything unseemly from happening.

I wouldn’t. I’m against having TVs in room ever. They say it’s really bad for sleep habits but for kids you can’t monitor what the child is watching or playing on the tv.

It’s up to you, but no professional is going to advise that. Some parents even regret putting a tv in a child’s room because they stay up late and have a harder time waking up. But intimately it’s up to you.

Personally I wouldn’t- keeping that space as a calm sleep space is important and as they grow older it will be harder to put boundaries around tv watching.

My 6.5 year old has a TV in his room. He loves it! Obviously he doesn't watch it all the time and there are rules. I set time limits and parental controls so he cant watch anything bad. I think it's great. He is my only boy and he has 3 little sisters. The girls always want something girly on tv and he just isn't into it. Instead of listening to them complain or argue, I let him have his own TV. The only way it could be bad is if you don't enforce rules with it.  If you're afraid of him staying up all night watching it then take the remotes out when its bed time 🤷‍♀️

It's really up to you at this point. If you monitor them and ascertain that they arent just vegging in front of the tv for hours at a clip, it should be fine. It can be a took to teach responsibility and trust. It can help empower the child by helping make their space their own. It can give you a little peace during the day as well....which is often understated but equally important.

It’s really up to the parents. My oldest has always had a tv in his room. I made sure parental controls were set so he could only watch it for a certain amount of time during certain hours. I also set it to where he could only watch certain channels.
