How do you pronounce "protractor"?

I have always pronounced it "PRO-track-ter" and had never heard it pronounced any other way until my husband made fun of me (teasingly of course) tonight for saying it like that. He says "pruh-TRACK-ter" and I googled it and apparently that's the correct pronunciation.... I'm from the Western US (specifically Oregon but my parents are both from Idaho, where I now live) and my husband spent most of his childhood in Mississippi. How do you pronounce it and where are you from?

I say it the way it’s spelled. It’s phonics. He isn’t saying it phonetically correct.  The dictionary sources I located all have pronunciation with pro not pruh 🤷🏼‍♀️ Midwest accent??

I'm from Tennessee, and I say it basically like your husband does. I put the emphasis on the "trac" part. My husband grew up in Alabama, and he's says it the same way. Maybe it's a southern thing?

I say it like you do and grew up I  Portland Oregon. I'm also currently living in Idaho.my husband grew up in Missouri and he pronounces it the same as you as well.
