Dark spot on eye?

My husband has a sore eye, he said it feels scratchy. When I looked I noticed a darkened area, however is it in both eyes. I tried to get a photo but it's not coming out very clear. Anyone know what this is?

A lot of people have that. I think it’s normal.

Darker spots like that is the retina shining through the sclera layers in the eyes. Quite common and will most likely get more noticeable the older he gets. 
As for the sore eyes, is he wearing contacts? Use a lot of screens? Air conditioning/ovens turned on where he is? Any diseases or medication? I would go see an optometrist or eye doc to find out why they are sore. Or at least try comfort drops - hyloCare or thealoz is what I most often recommend for sore eyes.
