Scammed...

A couple of weeks ago, my SO and I signed a lease for a townhouse for move in date of 12/1. We had given first months rent and security deposit. They knew we were expecting our first child and everything seemed legit. Today, we were supposed to get the tour and our keys (per covid guidelines), we talked to these people yesterday. Today, their phones were disconnected, emails ignored, and our hearts were shattered. We gave almost everything we had to secure this place for our growing family. And it has been devastating to lose the amount of money we did. Tears have not stopped, the hurt has not stopped. We went to the bank and they were unable to do anything for us, they did flag the account and freeze it as the woman we spoke to stated other suspicious activity was happening but she could not tell us what. We have filed a police report. And we hope these monsters are found and charged. Needless to say, it has been one of the worst days of our lives. I am trying not to let the sadness win as I am 22 weeks pregnant, but it has been so hard. We know we will not get our money back, we know it will take a while for us to get back into a good spot financially, and we are so lucky to have our family to support us and be there for us. But today completely destroyed us. I just needed to vent. Please, I wish everyone healthiness, safeness, and I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else. Stay away from Craigslist. Con artists and scumbags have become very good at what they do, unfortunately. 💔
