Is Covid more dangerous and deadly than the flu?

My sisters brother in law caught covid and he just passed away, he got ammonia from the covid and they put the respirator on at the last minute after already catching ammonia￼. Rest In Peace to him, i feel so bad for her..
I’m just so terrified of covid that I can’t even tell the difference between what’s way more deadly & dangerous 
What’s really more dangerous? 
This just made me more paranoid and makes me not want to step foot out anywhere.. I think of my 2 babies & I can’t even imagine this EVER happening to them it breaks my heart
Update: I’m just scared.. if covid going to last forever? Is this a new virus that will never go away? This is horrible.. we all have good immune systems but it seems like it’s still killing those who always been healthy it just doesn’t make sense to me & it scares me even more that we’re basically all not safe.. I mean what’s the survival rate with it? I just have so many questions ..

Covid has more of an L curve effecting children and healthy adults less severely than adults with compromised immune systems and underlying conditions and elderly. 
The flu has a U curve effecting children AND elderly severely, while adults are mostly safe and get only mild symptoms. Each infection is different and effects everyone differently. Of course Covid is going to seem more severe right now because it’s new and we’re still learning about it, but we should NOT downplay the flu. The flu is still extremely dangerous and it’s also not going anywhere.
Covid WILL last forever, just like the flu hasn’t been eradicated (due to different strains). I think a lot of people won’t be comfortable receiving a Covid vaccine since it’s so rushed, but eventually we’ll regularly get them and it’ll be at bay. 
In my personal opinion, we can be vigilant and aware of Covid, but we can’t let it dictate and control our lives. Viruses come and go, they’re a part of life. It’s tragic that we lose so many people to both the flu and Covid (amongst other diseases and infections), but we can’t expect to hide from it and close economies forever. Covid isn’t going away anytime soon. If you are extremely scared and it’s effecting your life, I suggest speaking to a therapist. I’m not being rude, I just don’t want you living in constant fear and putting your life on hold and such.

Covid is very dangerous mainly because it affects everyone so differently. I hate when people try to downplay it as if it’s like the flu, more research has come out to suggest that it’s way more deadly than the flu. The reason being is because an elderly person can survive it, yet not a 24 year old healthy individual. Rip to your sisters brother in law, i can’t imagine how hard it was for the family. My mom and uncle both had it and survived luckily. But my mom had it worse than my uncle even though my uncle had preexisting conditions and my mom was seemingly healthier .
