Balayage or Highlights?

I wanna do something with my hair but I have no idea what’s better and what’s the difference helppp

Highlights are from top to bottom. They look more unnatural. Balayage is more random (adds more color too just a heads up) but it looks more natural. And is WAY prettier

Balayage is the action of painting the hair with lightener for a more natural sun-kissed look. You can be as dramatic or natural as you want with this technique.
Highlighting the hair typically goes from root to end, what you would see in foils all over the hair. You can use a variety of slices or weaves and partial/half/full foils to achieve the highlighted look you want, which can look dramatic and chunky or natural and thin like your hair grew out that way. 
If you want to grow out your natural color, then I would suggest a balayage. It is way less maintenance and would probably be easier to achieve the look you want as you grow out your natural color.
