Does anybody have a permanent retainer after having braces off?

I think it’s time for me to get my braces off, this is the second time I had to get them. The first time I had them I didn’t wear the retainer that you take in and out so my teeth went back to how they were . This time around I want a permanent retainer. Did you have to get your guns cut before you got it? Do you constantly feel it?
