Stopping Birth Control before Surgery (First Surgery)

Still waiting for my doctors reply, but I need to hear other people’s experiences! This is my first ever surgery, and although it is only a short hour and a couple incisions, I am freaking out. I’m currently still waiting for my doctor to call me back, but my surgery is the 4th. Should I have stopped my birth control? Did anyone else have surgery whilst still taking birth control? Everything I read says you are suppose to, and so now I am worried. So I just wanted to hear what other experiences people had!
