SHOULD I GET MYSELF FIRED? 🥴

Feeling pretty down and stressed out. My company is being acquired AND I recently found out that I don’t get paid maternity leave. I can easily get a new job, but still would not qualify for maturity leave... I want them to let me go so I can file for unemployment but my supervisor is a bitch and is just making my job a living hell to force me to quit, I’m sure. 
I’m at the point where I’ll do almost anything to get fired!
I need some words of advice.

Think further down the line when you apply somewhere else and they want a reference from your previous employer.

If you commit a fireable offense you won’t get unemployment. Unless you can prove that they fired you without cause you’re SOL. Also paid maternity leave isn’t something any employer in the US is required to provide. You’d do better to ride it out, save your money, leave on good terms with a reference.

If you’re in the US, paid maternity leave really isn’t a thing. No one I know has ever had their leave paid.  That’s why you save your pto & sick time.  If you quit or get fired, you won’t be protected at your next job and they can fire you for being out when you give birth.  Do you really want to put yourself in that situation?

If you are fired... I don't think you can get benefits. If you're laid off then I believe you can. Two different scenarios and if you're fired they may not pay. Doesn't mean you can't file, just means it may not be approved

Absolutely not. Quit and get a better job. Most jobs in the US do not offer paid maternity leave, you take what you can afford. It’s bullshit but unfortunately it is what it is. 
Getting yourself fired will only work out poorly for you in the long run.

Look into short term disability instead of maternity leave . . My company doesn’t technically do maternity leave, it’s considered short term disability and I’m paid through TAFW (time away from work). It’s not at 100% (I get paid at 60% since I haven’t been here 4 years) but it’s better than nothing. Good luck!

According to most states, as long as you can prove you quit for good cause (hostile work environment/harassment/racism etc) you can still qualify for unemployment. Don't ever commit misconduct on purpose they can and will use it against you especially if they can prove it!

Rite now with the pandemic going on you can quit and still collect benefits. At least in ny you can. If the reason you quit is because you don’t feel safe being exposed which if you’re pregnant than I wouldn’t feel safe anyways. My county has record high cases every day this week. We were at 348 for just yesterday in just the county I live in.
