How many bridesmaids is appropriate?

My fiance and I want a really extravagant wedding. (Well, mostly he does, and who am I to say no? 😂)
But that doesn't necessarily mean we want a "big" wedding. We have a lot of friends, but not many who we are super close to. So we've been having trouble choosing who we want to be in our wedding. So far we have 5 groomsmen and 4 bridesmaids. However there is a 6th groomsmen we're considering and 2 additional bridesmaids. I feel like 6 and 6 would be too much, but I really don't know what the normal amount is, or if you're supposed to have the same amount of groomsmen and bridesmaids. What did y'all do for your weddings???

I'll probably have zero cause my social life is non existent and me and my sister have each other blocked on everything 🙃
But in all seriousness, its whatever you feel comfortable with. There is no appropriate amount.

Not that I don’t have friends, but I didn’t want the headache of organizing them, finding dresses and any drama!

Just have as many as you feel is right. When my friend got married, they had like 3/4 groomsmen and 5 bridesmaids. I’d never have anyone who I wasn’t super close to as a bridesmaid so if you’re struggling to find people to fill places I’d suggest sticking with who you have already!

I feel like 6 is the absolute max without the altar looking cramped and crowded. I’d say stick to your 4 bridesmaids but if he has 5 groomsmen I would want it to be even. So if he’s thinking of a 6th and there’s 2 more you could add - 6 would be the right number lol. 
We’re totally eloping because the whole wedding thing sounds like a big mess to me 🤣

We are going to be having 7 on each side... most weddings I've been to people have had 5 plus on each side... have as many as you want but certainly don't feel like 6 is too many, it is not! For me personally 10 on each side would be too much but I know people who have had that many and enjoyed it.

I had 4 bridesmaids. My sister, his 2 sisters and my cousin. My husband had 4 groomsmen. I felt like we had a small bridal party. Most weddings I’ve gone to or been in there’s 6 or more. One of my sister in laws had 11 (I was in that wedding and it was pretty obnoxious in my opinion)
