Pumping before visiting family
Going to visit my mom for Christmas and I exclusively breastfeed (no bottle) but I noticed it’s very inconvenient to go to another room to nurse my baby and miss out from spending time with my family. I know it sounds dumb but what I’m trying to say is that it would be easier to just give baby a bottle of breastmilk while still talking with my family and all that.
I stacked up milk (using a hakaa) the first 3 weeks after birth to help with my engorgement then I stopped because I was no longer getting engorged. Today I introduced the bottle to my baby and he took it! BUT every frozen bag has up to 6oz of milk and obviously he doesn’t drink that much. I was reading how thawed, warmed up milk has to be finished within 2 hours then tossed. That’s a huge waste of milk!
So I was thinking, what if I pump before visiting family, leaving me with freshly expressed milk for my baby.
1. After pumping how long can freshly expressed milk stay at room temp?
2. How long should I pump for? Would I pump the same time frame my baby takes to feed? I’m not exactly sure how many oz he drinks on the boob.
3. How much should I pump if I’m going to be with family all day?
