February Baby came in December!
Today (12/26) I was 33+2 weeks... So Monday I was put on bed rest for borderline preeclampsia but was approved to go to my family’s lake house 3 hours away for Christmas. We were going to come back today (26th) but I didn’t sleep well there and told my husband I wanted to go ahead and come home last night (25th). We got home at 8pm and I went to the restroom and definitely lost my mucus plug. No bleeding or pain so I just went to bed! woke up at 4:30am and thought “omg I didn’t pee all night I can’t believe it!”... so I got up to pee and when I stood up to wipe, about 2-3T of water spilled out. I could tell it wasn’t urine. Smelled sweet. Sat back down and more came out but was never a gush. Woke up my husband and called the doctor. He told me to go to the maternal assessment center so we got there about 5:30am ish. She checked to see if it was in fact my water that broke and after she confirmed that it was, she then checked me and I was 3cm dilated and 60% effaced. Woah. Contractions started and I vomited a few times... when I did, I finally felt the gush of more water coming out 😂 She spoke to the doctor about magnesium to try to stop it. L&D came to get me and gave me some light pain meds & the magnesium. Well the magnesium didn’t work and I was at 5cm and 100% effaced about 10am. The contractions were strong and close together so she ordered the epidural and that wasn’t bad at all. Started to kick in fairly quickly and then I just sat talking to my amazing doctor like she was a friend while she watched some contractions. I started feeling more pressure so we started pushing. 1 hour later baby boy was born! 11:54am weighing in at 5lb 2oz and 17” long. He had a great cry & had a 9/10 Apgar score but unfortunately soon after started the “grunting/gurgling” noises and they took him to level 3 NICU for oxygen & pressure. He was sunny side up so his head/face had some trauma (it took him a while to come under my pelvic bone) and his chin is a little smushed. My doctor said had he been face down he would have slipped out in 15 mins!! The NICU doctor said he’ll probably look totally different in a few days! Anyway, baby Gentry Jacob Lutz is hanging in there. I couldn’t do any skin to skin because his O2 levels were still too low but hopefully we’ll be able to tomorrow. He’s just perfect and so handsome and I just can’t believe I had a baby today. Still in shock. Due date was originally 2/11... just got used to the idea of having a late January baby at ~37 weeks bc of my high BP. Yet now here we are with a December baby!!! So crazy. Overall, I’m feeling great with no pain. Hoping it stays that way 🤪 I had a 2nd degree tear so hopefully that heals up quickly and nicely. Sending much love to all the December mamas who gave birth to Christmas babies!! 💖💖💖
