When I as watching Mama June: from not to hot I saw that Alanna pretended to snort cocaine after her mother got arrested for drug use and the family got Alanna a therapist to talk to about what happened the therapist said that what happens in the mother’s life would also happen in the daughters/child’s life. Which I do believe in because if you don’t find a way to break something it would continue.

There’s a history of alcohol abuse on my husband’s paternal side of the family, but that doesn’t necessarily mean my husband will have the same problem. He avoids alcohol like the plague. He might be prone to it, but he can make choices to avoid becoming an alcoholic. 
No, I don’t believe in cycles when it comes to that. You’re not doomed. They’re easy to break when you know what to look for and what to avoid.

I think we are a product of our upbringing, but I think that’s as far as that goes. Continuing a cycle is a choice, not a guarantee. Some people use their history as an excuse to misbehave and make bad decisions. Some use it as a motivator to never make the same mistakes 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it makes you more vulnerable to similar situations but ultimately its a choice and its possible for people to choose differently. My dad is an alcoholic but neither myself or my brother touch alcohol because we never wanted to be like that

Yes, but I don't think it's fair to say something will happen to the child. I've had multiple cousins have kids at young ages. It is more likely for their children to have kids at young ages, but that hasn't happened. Now some cousins have gotten into drugs & their parents did. My mom continued the cycle of abuse from her life, but not to the same extent and I have so far managed to break that cycle (I'm hoping my brother's wife will help him with that). My whole family has a problem with alcohol & I don't think anyone in the family has escaped that cycle. So cycle exist, but communication, therapy, and helping the child make good choices are key to preventing cycles from continuing.

I believe in generational curses. I do also believe you make your own choices and are responsible for them BUT I do think issues can be passed down from generation to generation.

Cycles can be repeated for broken. Her getting out of her Mother’s care until she is stable and getting her into therapy are chain breakers.

Yes and no there are so many positive cases of people changing their life around after shit like that so I would say it just depends on the person's will not so much their surroundings

There is a gene for alcoholism... Those who have a history of alcoholism/drug use have a higher risk of developing drinking/drug use. Studies show that alcoholism is approximately 50% attributed to genetics. Like another commenter replied, some people know the risks and avoid alcohol completely... Some don't and once it's started, they can't control it. I've also seen studies on identical twins years ago that showed even the twin that was separated and grew up without alcohol in the family, grew up to be an alcoholic. Again, it's a 50% chance of that happening.
