When to test?

Update!!!!

I took a test today and got the two lines!!!! I will retest tomorrow morning just to make 100% sure, but I am over the moon, really hoping it’s not a false positive!

My husband and I are TTC and finally, my period is 5 days late :). I am consumed with paranoia / anxiety (/ excitement really...) and want to take a test, but terrified that I’ll have a negative result.

My mum says to wait another week, just to be sure. Is it worth it, or do you think 5 days late is enough to test?
