The first test came back Negative

My typical cycle is 5-7 days, usually on time and when not I blame it on stress. my partner and I had a close call the first day my period ended last month. When I was a single day late this month I took a test it came back negative. My period started the next day and my worries melted away. Now, its been about a week since my period ended, I'm going through my ovulatory phase. However, I continued to spot lightly, sorta brown in color. And that still hasn't quite stopped. I gave that second test to a friend in need, and I'm not sure what to make of this light brown discharge. I need your opinions and advice, Im nervous and unsure.
