Flying vs Driving at 24 weeks?

My husband and I want to visit his best friend and wife who had a baby last year. My husband also hasn’t seen his best friend since our wedding, and before our baby comes I want to surprise him with a little trip. 
We’re going from upstate NY to Raleigh, NC. Flights are about 5 hours total, and driving is around 10 hours. Which one would you recommend? I’ve had a fairly easy pregnancy, no issues so far. I just don’t know with covid if it’s safer to fly or drive? I’ll be 24ish weeks and don’t know what to do! (We are testing before we leave).

I would imagine driving is safer. My husband and I had a 6-hour drive over the holidays to visit his parents and we stopped a couple of times, but it was relatively easy to find bathrooms that were clean and safe. I imagine it’s much safer to wear a mask for 5 minutes to use a public bathroom than to sit in a crowded plane for 5 hours. My only complaint about driving was the discomfort. I was 23 weeks on our drive and my back was killing me, so bring some support pillows!

There’s a risk either way. But I’ve heard from friends who have flown lately that they really aren’t social distancing on planes anymore. My friend sat right next to a stranger last week on a flight.

If it wasn’t for Covid, I would say to fly but with Covid concerns I would drive.

I will be 26 weeks when we go visit my family (MN to FL) it’s about a 3.5 hour flight so not too bad. We will have the whole row to our family (family of 3) so I’m not concerned about sitting next to someone I don’t know. Cases have been declining and we’ve all had COVID in the past (I know we can get it again) but my doctor is okay with it and we as a family are okay with it. My biggest worry is getting my 3 year old to keep his mask on 🤦🏼‍♀️ I would take all the same precautions as I did before when I fly. Wipe down everything with Lysol wipes, obviously keep our masks on and sanitize as needed. If anything these planes are probably cleaner then ever before 😂 it’s totally a personal decision but we as a family feel comfortable flying.

I second S, they are packing planes like normal again. I personally would drive with the new more contagious strain right now. And planes don’t have to deny you if you’re sick of showing symptoms and people can be so selfish/ untrustworthy. If you don’t plan on doing an overnight somewhere I’d drive personally

Honestly I think there is a risk either way. With driving you have to stop at rest areas on the way and so many people are in and out of them. With flying you are in a contained space with a lot of other people. I know every one is wearing masks and such, but still a risk.
