What are your thoughts about the a416 bill ?

So far I’ve only seen it for New York. I disagree with this and don’t believe they should have this amount of authority to do this to people.

This article is written absolutely terribly. I did follow it’s advice though. I pulled up the bill and read every word. Here are two key sentences. 
“Clear and convincing evidence that the health of others is or may be endangered”
“An imminent and significant threat to the public health resulting in severe morbidity or high mortality”
Is that not what laws and detention are for? We have them to protect the public from those that wantonly endanger the safety of others. At least, that’s what they should be for. 
It’s also filled with checks and balances to avoid abuse of power. It’s not designed to lock up grandma because she spontaneously coughed in a grocery store. It’s designed to prevent super-spread of contagion by those that can or will not take measures to prevent endangering others.

We ok with detaining drunk drivers even if they didn’t kill someone?  They cause 10,000 deaths per year in the US.
I think detainment of people who are a public health threat due to a disease that has now killed over 400,000 Americans is reasonable.  If you’re contagious and continue to go out, you are more dangerous than a drunk driver.
But, I think supports need to be in place for people who feel/think/ need to go out for survival- like paid sick leave and a place where they can isolate themselves.
Anti-Masker, Covid denying Karen, who has no problem going to the grocery store while contagious, boasts about it online while people can’t be with their loved ones who are dying - I’m good with detainment.

I think it’s important to post the entire bill, not just parts, with Twitter and Fox News commentary. With that being said, it has much more detailed information. And, if you are a threat to public health during a pandemic/endemic, then action should be taken. If you are a threat to society for any reason, action should be taken, just the same as drunk drivers, those who knowingly spread STD’s and so forth. I would be fine if they added a few other clauses, and maybe even change the time frame, pursuant to individuals specific cases.

I agree with it, it seems like a last resort  resulting from the way everyone is behaving.
It was inevitable from the beginning tbh, the fact that there was a whole protest against a global pandemic goes to show that nothing will work unless its forced. If its down to health and safety then that goes above anything else.
I do feel like the UK will end up going down this route too and whilst I won't be entirely happy with it, I understand why.

It’s not enforceable, although I understand the sentiments. America is in the state it is in because citizens can’t think of anyone but themselves. My mother is an optometrist and she takes the temperature of any patient trying to enter her office. The amount of people walking around like normal, with fevers over 101°F, is why we have so many cases and deaths. They get mad when they’re told to leave, too. It’s astounding. 
Regardless, this wouldn’t be enforceable and is too subjective. Not to mention it would be incredibly expensive and burdensome on police and health professionals.
