What kind of steriliser are you getting and why?

Hiya, I’m a first time mum and really have no clue where to start with sterilisers!! I’m leaning most towards the electric Phillips avent 3in1 but I keep seeing so many mixed reviews so would love to know everyone else’s thoughts! Thank you 😊

In my opinion, you don’t need one lol. With my first, I was diligent about boiling bottles and pump parts on the stove in a pot. With my second, I just tossed them in the dishwasher. I’ll do the same with #3. There’s so many expensive and unnecessary baby items out there. I feel the same way about bottle warmers. I used one with my first and that was it, my kids have all just preferred room temp bottles. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I washed mine in hot water with soap and put them on a drying rack. I never boiled them after the first time. My son is now 23 months and never had an issue so I’ll be doing the same with this one.

With my first I had both the avent 3 in 1 and the avent microwave bags. I much prefer the microwave bags, but this time round I am going to try the sterilising tablets in a designated Tupperware as I always used to burn my fingers on the hot bottles/pumping equipment !

I was a full time nanny before I was put on bedrest with my first (current) pregnancy. The first family that I was with had a girl around 8 months old and while Mom was as a self-proclaimed germaphobe, they didn’t have a sterilizer. The second family I was with had a 3 month old and they used a steam one. Like, a plastic container that you seal tight with some water and then pop in the microwave for like 2 mins. 
I personally felt like it was a waste but obviously did as I was told. As long as you’re washing bottles, binkies, etc properly, sanitizing (IMHO) isn’t really necessary. It’s good for your kids to be exposed to a bit to help build immune systems.

I just buy a handful of the medela quick steam bags to use when I feel like anything could use an extra good clean but usually just do soap and water

I didn’t bother with a sterilizer for my first. We boiled bottles and things on the stove when we first got them before using for the first time. Then I just washed with soap and water when they were dirty.

If you’re expressing and feeding breast milk you don’t need a steraliser. They can go in the dishwasher or be washed in warm soapy water

Hot soapy water all day and sometimes run in the top rack of the dishwasher at night.
