Copper IUD
Hi Ladies,
I'm really wanting to get the copper IUD inserted as it is hormone-free - I've been on hormonal birth control for more than 10 years (since I got my second period ever). However, I have a history of endometriosis (had a laparoscopy once). I've used the pill (I'm sensitive to the lactose seemingly), I've used the Mirena but had some issues having recurrent bacterial vaginosis so I only used it for 12 months. I've used the Implanon NXT but had issues with bleeding for about 5 weeks so I had that removed after just over 2 years. In between getting that removed and now I found out I have an ovarian cyst and I'm currently not on any birth control hormone or otherwise.
Has anyone been told by their doctor or gynaecologist that they shouldn't get the copper IUD as it may increase the bleeding and cramping of periods? I have had a very bad experience with the doctor I most recently went to - she was very rude and simply gave me one pamphlet on the matter and expected me to go home and change my mind. She is trying to force me to go onto the Mirena - even after telling her I don't want to go back onto hormonal contraception again.
This might not sound like much but it's just been such a stressful time in my life given that hormones have been messed around and other things going on. But I'm actually considering going back on the Mirena even though my heart is set on the copper IUD.
Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated! 🙂
