Ever Took back cheating ex?

If your ex cheated and you took them back what happened after? If you decided not to take them back what happened after that? Please. I know I shouldn't go back but I just wanna know other peoples experiences.
Is it possible to be friends or ultimate betrayal?

I’ve never been cheated on so you can ignore this comment if you want lol, but I was with my sister every step of the way when she was cheated on and she took him back and there relationship is stronger than ever. 
She left him as soon as she found out, hell she even went out and found a fun smash and pass. Fast forward two months he comes here to see her and they get a hotel and they apparently talked all weekend they didn’t even have sex once lol but they locked themselves up and tried to work through it and told each other everything. It sincerely worked for them and now he’s like the best boyfriend to her and has stepped up so much and finally become the man she deserves. 
Now I’m not saying that this is the most affective way and will work for anyone because the truth is she still doesn’t fully trust him and he now doesn’t fully trust her. And the whole weekend could have gone so differently and they could still be on there separate paths. What I think it is is that they both still wanted it to work and we’re both willing to change even though he was the one who cheated. Idk if this is helpful at all and maybe you’ll be able to work it out because it’s definitely not impossible.

They’ll most likely cheat again because they think you’ll keep taking them back. It’ll just get worse

No because then they think their behaviour is ok and they will continue to do it so I wouldn’t take him back. Cut all ties and find someone else
