Birth control

So me and my boyfriend have been dating for a while now and we recently just started having sex. My periods are super heavy and VERY irregular. I want to talk to my parents about getting me on birth control but then they will think it's for the wrong reasons. I want it because I don't like not knowing when to expect my period.. It gets quite annoying. Does anybody know of ways to go about asking?
