How to play with baby?

What are some things you do to play with and stimulate your baby during the first year? Any ideas welcome: activities, favorite toys, etc. First time mom looking for ideas on how to help my baby learn and grow in her first year!

I read books to my son every day even when he was a newborn. He liked the black and white books the most, or any high contrast books, like Brown bear Brown bear. Peek a boo is always a favorite game for babies, and a fun tummy time mat/floor gym is a must have. My son also loved it when I would stack toys up so he could knock them down. The Grimms rainbow stacker was definitely a favorite and he still enjoys it even as a 3yo. We would also have dance parties with the Wiggles Pandora station!

Tummy time is always great. Lay with your baby and show them toys. You can also sing to them. I also would pedal my daughters legs like a bicycle or pedal her arms when she was young. She loved it.

Having them on the ground as much as possible. That’s the biggest thing you can do for them. Then just talking to them and telling them what your doing as you do it. Nothing too special. Connecting with baby as well.
