Has anyone ever had to get a bone marrow biopsy?

My hematologist gave me the options of either having it done today or wait three months and checking my white blood cells again and then proceeding with the biopsy if my count is still low.

It most likely will be low again, because my family doctor has checked it 3 months before the hematologist did, and it was low. But I got scared and said I’d wait. He said if I change my mind before the next three months to call and schedule an appointment.

He checked a lot of other things on my first visit. He assumed it would be low iron, or something like that. But everything came back normal except my WBC.

I asked if it could possibly be a sign of lupus, as I have many symptoms of it, especially worsening Raynauds (it’s driving me insane. I used to love cold weather and swimming, and haven’t been able to enjoy swimming or winter in a few years because it hurts.) and he said he was wondering about that and he would check that today and then if it came back positive, he’d refer me to a rheumatologist.

He said he doesn’t think it’s anything like leukemia. So that put me at ease a little bit.
