Princess and the Frog Party: Is It Okay?

So my family and I have been talking about my daughter’s birthday and what we plan to do. She LOVES Princess and The Frog and my husband and I were leaning towards a Princess and The Frog theme. I’m white, my husband is Hispanic and our daughter is white/Hispanic. Would it be okay if my daughter had that themed party as in wearing Tiana’s dress etc? We thought nothing of it until some friends brought it up and now I’m second guessing it because I really don’t wanna offend anyone. Please help!

As long as you’re not painting your child’s skin to look exactly like her then it’s fine.

No different than if any other child wanted to dress up as Ariel or Belle or Jasmine. Nobody bats an eye at that, regardless of the child’s ethnicity.

I haven’t had the app that long and am just noticing that. I don’t understand the mute feature. I get if someone’s being absolutely horrible or stalking you, but to just mute everyone who disagrees with you seems so childish and pointless! I wonder if she’s getting a bunch of notifications but can’t see any of the replies because she has everyone muted?

... why wouldn’t it be okay? It’s a Disney character lol. Y’all gotta stop thinking black people are gonna come for your throat for every little thing.

I meant to click completely fine. My daughter (white) was obsessed with that movie when it came out and had all the costumes and dolls. I don’t think there would be anything wrong with that so long as you’re not painting her brown and putting a wig on her

It is absolutely mind blowing to me that little girls/boys cannot dress up as their favorite princess bc of other people getting offended by it 🙄 she is a child, and she is not racist or appropriating anyone’s culture by dressing in Tiana’s dress. She is clearly a fan of hers, and should be able to dress up like her for her birthday. Let’s let her live her life without other people’s opinions ruining the fun. There is nothing wrong with this.

Friends are overthinking it. Its fine, just don’t paint her skin darker

Let's all dream of a world without races and maybe one day it'll come true ❤️

Definitely! Just that if you forget all history and forget that there are races (like we're just the human race with several different feaures), a skincolor is just a "feature" like smurfs being blue. Now if you're completely honest.. Your kids will want to be blue if they want to reenact avatar or the smurfs, right? Now to be completely honest I think the world isn't ready for this vision yet but it would be nice if we would all be equal and nobody actually thought about different races, wouldn't it? 😊

I'm really surprised some of your friends have an issue with this. Your little girl wants to be her favorite princess for her birthday and that's sweet.

I don’t see it as an issue as long as you’re not going out of your way to make her skin tone resemble or duplicate tiana.

I mean... dont paint her in blackface but dressing up as a character she admires that is a woman of color is the whole point of representation. Normalizing diversity

Just like don’t do blackface, and you’re good.
